Our team-building challenges require communication, team work, co-operation and problem-solving skills. The extreme sports require determination concentration and focus. Our evening activities allow for group mixing and socialising. All of these are important life skills for people to learn and develop. Our experienced instructors facilitate and integrate these important life issues skilfully through the various activities, promoting respect for each other during your course at UISCE.

UISCE is a unique activity based Gaeltacht adventure centre.
If it’s all about LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! – UISCE has it! We are situated on the water’s edge of a blue flag beach in Cuan Eilí, at the heart of the Mayo Gaeltacht. We are surrounded by spectacular coastline, sea, sand dunes, rugged sea cliffs and unspoilt natural beauty. UISCE is the perfect location for outdoor activities and environmental education - Perfect for your school trip!
If you think you can or if you
think you can’t – you’re right!
- Henry Ford
In UISCE, we specialise in mixing the enjoyable experience of adventure sports with Gaeilge. This helps students develop a new positive perspective of the Irish language. Once a student changes their attitude towards Gaeilge, learning the language becomes easier. “Making Irish fun” is our motto and we now have over 15 years’ experience in providing safe, professional and enjoyable Irish activity courses in UISCE.
The Gaeltacht Experience!
You can tailor your trip to suit your own requirements. Students can be fully immersed in the Irish language, or gently introduced to an atmosphere Gaelach. All watersports, outdoor activities, climbing, evening activities and céilis are on offer trí Ghaeilge.
We will be more than happy to customise a course for
you and your class.
Know your own strengths? Tell us. Building on our experience and the popularity of our unique activity-based summer Irish College, Coláiste UISCE, we have developed various school packages that can be tailored to suit your exact needs and budget. Our courses can include a mixture of watersports, land-based activities, team-building challenges, Gaisce activites, formal Irish classes and even environmental education; it’s all up to you! In conjunction with our helpful staff you can plan your trip and decide where you would like the focus to lie.
On arrival, students are divided into groups of 6 for activities. In these groups we encourage everyone to mix with new people in their class or year. Individual tuition on the water is also a major part of the course. Instructors are aware of each individual’s capabilities and so encourage all students to do their personal best.
UISCE is equipped with 3 classrooms, a large hall, basketball courts and a football pitch. This makes it a perfect venue for a Gaelscoil or National School trip to the Gaeltacht. We already have a number of primary schools “moving house” to UISCE for their Gaeltacht trip during the school term, and hey – who wouldn’t like a bit of adventure to break up those school days?
The security of familiar faces combined with a new setting means that a trip during term time can ease younger students into the “away from home” environment of the Gaeltacht and show it for what it is: a chance to enjoy and appreciate Gaeilge in healthy surroundings.
Usually, groups continue with their normal school programme up to lunch time. After lunch the UISCE staff take over and students are treated to adventure sports as Gaeilge. At night, there’s no danger of a boring evening in, as students are entertained by experienced instructors with céilí dancing, art classes, team-building games and much more. As with all our courses, safety is of the upmost importance and students are fully supervised throughout the night.
A language trip with a difference! Students typically go on European Language trips abroad where they get the chance to hear the language they are studying in its home country. It brings a language to life and encourages young speakers to find their voice beyond the safety net of English. So why not bring students on an Irish Language Gaeltacht Trip? On this journey, students will experience Gaeilge in its native environment – the Gaeltacht!
For some the draw will be the adventure sports, for others it will be the language, but there will be something for everyone during your Irish language trip to UISCE!
UISCE is an ideal destination for Transition Year students. We deliver fun and interactive courses in a practical learning environment. We help students take greater responsibility for their own learning and decision making. The combination of watersports, land-based activities, team building challenges, environmental education and life skills coaching means our tailor-made Transition Year courses hold an incredibly broad appeal.
UISCE is an enjoyable positive learning environment for teenagers where they will have fun while learning new skills in a safe environment.
UISCE is the perfect location from which to conduct your environmental education field trip. Parts of the Mullet Peninsula are designated as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) under the EU Habitats Directive in recognition of the variety of important terrestrial and marine habitats, the number of rare plant and animal species and its proximity to pristine bog lands.
The area also receives its status as an Special Protected Area (SPA) under the EU Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds due to the wide variety of specimen seen on a daily at UISCE, including Barnicle and Brent Geese, Ringed Plover, Greenland White Fronted Geese, Whooper Swans and Golden Plover.
Regular sightings of Cetaceans (Whales and Dolphins) occur off the coast, while bottle nosed and common dolphins along with porpoise have been spotted within the bay’s limits, feeding and playing. Special trips for whale and dolphin watching or visits to the Iniskea Islands can be organised by prior arrangement.
The Céide Fields centre run by the OPW is located nearby and offers daily tours interpreting the historical and geological significance of the area. The OPW are now developing Ballycroy National park in the area to provide visitor access to a pristine blanket bog habitat.
UISCE and the Erris area are ideal for an environmental, historical or cultural field trip.
We have the perfect location for a trip where students and teachers come together to mark the end of a year and the end of an era. Our fun, friendly, environment helps everybody interact on a less formal basis allowing people to develop respect for each other as individuals. Who knew teachers were people too?!
The mixture of watersports and team-building challenges keeps everyone busy in a stress-free atmosphere. The opportunity to interact “as Gaeilge” will also prove extremely beneficial in preparation for your Oral and Aural examinations.
As well as that, we can build study time into your trip if necessary as UISCE is the ideal distraction-free, peaceful, fresh air environment for studying.

College is all about asking questions so try these:
Is your class or club trying to organise an expedition or sports trip? Would your group like the chance to let loose and go wild? Want the opportunity to experience a wide variety of extreme sports? Like the chance to make history where history hasn’t been made before?
If the answer is ‘yes’, then give it your all in UISCE! Once you get here, you won’t want to leave.
As with all our courses we can tailor your trip to meet your needs. We can’t do those college assignments for you but we can help you forget about them for a while! UISCE is the perfect location for third-level groups with en-suite accommodation and all centre amenities (milking cows pending) at your door. Give us a go!
