Bean an Tí / Mná Tí

Is iad Aingeal, Bridie, Caitlín, Celia, Odran, Peigí, Síle agus Úna na bean an tí atá againn i gColáiste UISCE. We are very lucky to have some of the nicest and most dedicated, native Irish speakers, as our mná tí. Every summer these ladies and their families open their doors and welcome student into their homes with open arms, offering support both emotionally and educationally to our students. They act as guardians to na daltaí staying with them ensuring their safety and happiness, giving them a home away from home.

In each house, the Bean an Tí is assisted by the Ardchinnire or Prefect. These are past students of Coláiste UISCE who excelled as students on their course in Coláiste UISCE and help students settle in to their house and to the course. They lead by example and are a role models and mentors to students during the course. They work hard to ensure the standard of Irish is being maintained and are often the first to deal with issues like homesickness or other problems the students may experience.

A typical day for students staying in the Bean an Tí houses starts with breakfast at 8am. They generally can pick and choose from a wide spread to make and pack their own lunches. Hot soup is served at the centre. They leave after breakfast at approximately 9am, where they are transported to the centre by private bus.

They return to the houses in time for dinner at 6pm. They have free time after dinner until the bus arrives again at approximately 7.30pm to return to the centre for the céili and other night activities. These end at approximately 9.45 pm when the bus brings them back to their house for the night. The buses maintain the highest standard of safety and Ardchinnirí are there to supervise and ensure seatbelts are worn by all.
